FAQs
When is the right time to approach Kalaari for potential investment?
You can never be too early to approach us. We value all our interactions with founders. We typically invest from the Seed to Series A stage and aim to be the first institutional investor in your startup’s journey.
What does Kalaari look for in an idea?
We look for transformative ideas that can disrupt the status quo. We like to understand how your idea is leveraging tech to create a business moat, how scalable is your proposition, and how large of an impact can it have.
What is our investment process and how long does it take?
We keep our investment process as transparent as possible for founders. From our first call to presenting before the Investment Committee and arriving at our decision, the entire process takes around 4-6 weeks. While we cannot invest in most startups we meet, we promise to get back to every founder we interact with valuable feedback.
Does Kalaari only invest in particular areas or industries?
Kalaari is sector-agnostic and invests across tech and tech-enabled companies.
How should I get in touch with Kalaari?
You can get in touch with the Kalaari Team here.
How much does Kalaari usually invest in a new company? What size rounds do we participate in?
Our cheque size can vary from $500K – $5M across Seed to Series A. We reserve a portion of our capital to back our founders in future fundraising rounds as well.
Will we only invest if we can lead the round?
We prefer to be the Lead Investor. We are open to committing the entire round or co-investing with other investors as well.
Does Kalaari syndicate deals?
Yes, we are collaborative in our approach and have previously syndicated deals with angel investors and other VC funds.
Do our Limited Partners (LPs) have any special rights?
Our LPs are Financial Investors and have no special rights in our invested companies.
What value does Kalaari bring to companies that we invest in?
We are firm believers in adding value to our portfolio companies beyond just capital. We have built a strong portfolio services team, who assists our companies in matters ranging from finance, legal, business development, customer access, and talent management.
How does Kalaari support companies in future financing rounds?
Fundraising is an important milestone in your startup’s journey. Our corporate development team will support you in all aspects of your fundraising journey – from introducing you to the right investors, forming strategic partnerships, helping you craft your pitch, and guiding you throughout the journey.
Do we take board seats? How do we try to help as a supportive board member?
We take board seats and play an active role in the development of the company. As a board member, we assist founders on growth strategy, talent management and future fundraise. We are the first port of call for our portfolio companies in good and bad times, and always offer honest advice and guidance during the critical vulnerable periods in a company’s life.
