The Hindsight: Building the India Space Stack
We congratulate Anirudh, Tanveer and Rahul and the entire Digantara team on this incredible milestone. Since our seed investment in 2021, the team has demonstrated deep commitment to their core mission β making space more accessible and building a comprehensive space situational awareness & surveillance platform.
Back when @Sanjay Nekkanti, the founder of @DhruvaSpace was still in college, he kept hearing the same thing: Satellites were a government-only game in India. To him, this meant India risked remaining a bystander when the rest of the world industrialized space with the private sector playing a substantial role. Over a billion people and not a single private space company to show for it? He set out to build the whole stack: satellites, launch infrastructure, and ground infrastructure. So customers get a fully-delivered mission, not just a component.
Before Sanjay could actualize the full stack vision, Dhruva first had to find an anchor customer for each part of the stack: space, launch, and ground, and build from there. Once they did that, they were able to scale from CubeSats to 50kg nanosatellites to 150β200kg microsatellites. Rather than building every bit of manufacturing capacity from scratch, it leaned on India's decades-old network of space and defence suppliers.
We had Sanjay Nekkanti in conversation with @Vani Kola on The Hindsight, our podcast where founders speak about the early decisions, wedges, and experiments that shaped their companies long before success felt inevitable.
