Why Did Kalaari Invest in AgNext?
To build a big business in Agri trade, both quality and quantity are essential. Unfortunately, today the quality part is subjective with no defined standard leading to losses.
There is a need for solutions that will lead to QA-based trade, and AgNext caters to that. The company’s tech is a blend of spectrometry (chemical composition, moisture, etc.), computer vision (physical), and AI/ML. These are the real differentiators for quality analysis for food ingredients/products. In addition, they have been able to use the tech through the SaaS model in form factors (hardware) that are significantly smaller and lightweight.
These can now be used at farm gates, warehouses, procurement centers, etc. The incumbent players have age-old and rudimentary tech in bulky hardware. The other option is sending samples to labs for quality analysis which is time-consuming and is restricted due to a limited number of labs.
AgNext’s current focus is on milk, grains, spices, tea, and animal feed, where the accuracy is 98%+. They’ll soon focus on other food ingredients as well. Emerging competition only has computer vision tech focusing on 1-2 foods (tomato, potato, etc.). Taran has a deep understanding and passion for agribusinesses. Read more
