We’re excited to share that our portfolio company, Digantara, has raised a $50 million Series B round.

We congratulate Anirudh, Tanveer and Rahul and the entire Digantara team on this incredible milestone. Since our seed investment in 2021, the team has demonstrated deep commitment to their core mission – making space more accessible and building a comprehensive space situational awareness & surveillance platform.

"Every single time I've ignored what the market is telling me, I've had to go correct it five or six years later."

Anish Rai spent 16 years building Capillary Technologies starting with five interns, a credit card on AWS, and a pricing model a customer invented for him during a recession.

In this episode of SaaS from Scratch, Vani Kola sits down with Anish to unpack how two IIT Kharagpur graduates with no business idea and no funding landed their first enterprise customer by refusing to write a line of code until someone negotiated with them.

They built India's most trusted customer loyalty platform. Then hit a wall at β‚Ή29M revenue with a β‚Ή16M loss. Then rebuilt shutting down China, SMB, and e-commerce in the same move and came out the other side at $75M ARR with 15 Fortune 200 clients.

What the episode covers:
β€” Why a recession is the best time to start and the worst time to build a product nobody needs
β€” The "50 conversations before writing a line of code" rule that still holds 16 years later
β€” How Indigo Nation accidentally invented Capillary's SaaS pricing model by saying they had no money
β€” The India TAM ceiling every founder hits and almost nobody admits to early enough
β€” Why Anish does strategy once every four years and spends three months on it with 40 people
β€” Raising $300M across 16 years without a single banker
β€” The 4:30am practice that carried him through a pandemic layoff of 250 people

This is a founder who succeeded in India, got comfortable, paid for it, rebuilt from scratch at 1,000 people, and came out the other side. Everything he learned the hard way is in this conversation.

Ashok Jhunjhunwala: Architect of India's deep tech ecosystem | Changemakers Ep 1

Twenty years ago, before Kalaari Capital existed, a conversation with Professor Ashok Jhunjhunwala helped shape the decision to return to India and build here. When we launched Changemakers β€” a podcast series marking 20 years of Kalaari β€” there was no question about who the first guest should be. In this episode, Professor Ashok traces his life's conviction back to a single instruction from his grandfather, a cloth merchant from Bihar, who told him: "If there is a problem in society, you cannot say 'But what can I do?' If you cannot solve it, who else can?" That instruction became his operating system. It is what drove him to build the IIT Madras Research Park when everyone said there was no land, no capital, and no precedent for academia and industry working together at that scale β€” a campus that today counts 350+ startups among its alumni, including Uniphore, Ather Energy, AgniKul Cosmos, and Modulus Housing. It is what drove him to pioneer India's telecom revolution, bringing down the cost of telephony from β‚Ή40,000 to β‚Ή10,000, and to conceive of mobile payments at a time when the idea of paying a vegetable vendor from a phone was considered impossible. And it is what drives him as a mentor. On how he pushes the founders he works with, he says: "Every entrepreneur I work with is like my own kid. You love them. And from that love, you have to be hard at times." When asked if he sees himself as a changemaker, he said he does not β€” calling himself instead a spokesperson for the hundreds and thousands who worked alongside him. That, to us, is exactly what makes him one.
