From the oil fields to the forefront of climate innovation, my career has been an exhilarating journey driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge and a deep-rooted desire to make a difference. After graduating from BITS Pilani, I dove headfirst into the world of Oil & Gas consulting, an experience that took me to the far corners of the globe. Often the sole woman on site, I thrived on the challenges, collaborating with diverse teams on mission-critical projects.
Yet, something was missing. I craved a role with greater purpose, which led me to CleanMax, a leading renewable energy developer in India. There, I spread my wings, managing key client accounts and leading my own team under the mentorship of the Chief Commercial Officer. But even as I took pride in these accomplishments, a new ambition was taking root – to dive deeper into the burgeoning field of climate tech and nurture innovative startups in this crucial sector.
Enter the Kalaari Fellowship Program. Initially, I wrestled with doubts about transitioning to VC after five solid years of techno-commercial experience. But my interview with Vani Kola changed everything. We delved into fascinating discussions about net-metering solutions democratizing green power access and unexplored opportunities in the mobility sector. It was a true fan-girl moment that cemented my decision to join the program.
The past six months at Kalaari have been nothing short of transformative. I spearheaded the Net Zero Summit in March, bringing together over 200 participants and an impressive lineup of speakers and exhibits.
In May, a visit to the Ola Gigafactory left me in awe, surrounded by cutting-edge innovation driving the energy transition. Witnessing Ola’s remarkable growth fueled my passion to help other climate-focused startups achieve similar impact.
June brought a different kind of excitement with Kalaari Capital’s Premier League. As part of Team Strikers, I channelled my competitive spirit into football, rifle shooting, and cricket. Beyond the friendly rivalry and playful sledging, KCPL offered a unique opportunity to see new facets of our colleagues and forge stronger bonds with partners.
Today, I find myself in a sweet spot of professional fulfilment. I’m knee-deep in two crucial reports – one on female healthcare and another on carbon commerce. I’m also supporting our portfolio companies with their day-to-day challenges, participating in Board meetings, and soaking up wisdom from seasoned stakeholders. Engaging with some of India’s brightest minds in the climate sector keeps me constantly inspired.
Looking ahead, I’m eager to sharpen my skills in Fund Management and Fund Raising, crucial components in becoming a long-term, impactful investor. Each day, I approach my work with a clear intention: to drive meaningful change and achieve tangible results. I’m grateful for the challenges that keep my curiosity alive and for the collaborative spirit at Kalaari, where there’s always someone ready to brainstorm and explore new ideas.
